To “Anyone with a Dream”:

I am a 1995 graduate of Colorado State University, CVMBS, and the header of my very first resume as a new veterinarian stated that I wanted to build or own a million dollar practice. Well, here it is 22 years later and I have my dream close at hand.

I was liberated from my position at a time when the home market crashed and it would have been impossible to sell and move. I just happened to be thumbing through a vet magazine and noticed an advertisement for Equipment Outreach. I decided to call and ended up telling my life story to Dan. Dan took me under his wing and flat out told me, “You will not fail!” Up till this time if I didn’t have bad luck I felt that I wouldn’t have had any luck at all. I lost a clinic I purchased in 1999, mostly because my daughter was born with Pierre Robin and I wasn’t able to work for 6 months. My daughters’ father also decided that he wanted no part of her life and left me caring for a special needs child with no emotional or monetary support.

Dan not only helped me pick out my equipment, he also helped to facilitate a loan to help me get up and running. I was able to take a $13,000 personal loan out on my truck which I had to live on and use to secure a site to start my new business. Through Dan I was able to get financed for $100,000 in equipment, and through his magic I know I ended up with more than $250,000 worth of equipment. Not all of the equipment was new, but is still in great shape and in use today. When I began trying to make a “shopping list” for my new clinic, I was completely overwhelmed; however, Dan knew exactly what I needed to start up and be successful. He also had several contacts locally where I was able to acquire other “second hand” equipment, once again saving me thousands of dollars.

After securing my site, the remodel began on a string and a prayer but, unfortunately, went a little over budget. Dan once again came to my rescue by covering the overage himself. He knew things were going to be close for a while and allowed me to make payments over time.

Dan Brosler is my knight in shining armor! If it wasn’t for his belief in me and my dream, I would never have succeeded. I can always call on him for help and guidance.

I currently have a 6200 sq. foot hospital with equipment second to none and I am getting ready to negotiate the purchase of my building. I’m on my way to a million dollar practice at less than half the cost!

This letter is dedicated to any Doctor who dreams of owning their own practice, big or small.
Whether you have just a dream with no idea on how to make it happen or you know exactly what you want, Dan and the staff at Equipment Outreach are your secret weapon.

I found Equipment Outreach in a veterinary periodical and called as a last resort in making my dream of owning a veterinary hospital a reality. I live in a small town and wanting to support my community I tried getting a local loan. However, I was turned down at every turn. Most of the banks wouldn’t let me get past, “I’m starting a new business…” No one was interested in loaning a new start-up business no matter what it was. I had found the perfect building at a perfect location owned by a perfect entity. I was offered an awesome lease with an even more awesome rate, but no one would even look at a loan for a start-up business.

Then…I called Dan!! I must have spent an hour talking to him that first day as I told him my visions and dreams. He quietly listened and asked me a few questions about how I practiced and what I thought were my strengths and weaknesses. He then made a few phone calls, introduced me to some of his banking colleagues and in no time I had an equipment loan. He then set to work formulating an equipment list designed specifically for my needs. Some of those needs I hadn’t even realized!! –I then went to work on my building and designed the space with his equipment in mind. The vendors working with him were extremely helpful and even assisted me in tailoring my building to suit some of my equipment. Timing was crucial and he was able to time the arrival of my bigger equipment just right with the completion of the construction.

I signed my lease on Friday, March 18th at 4 pm and saw my first client Saturday April 30th.

I now have one of the most state of the art hospitals in the Pacific Northwest and can also claim to have the best x-ray and digital systems in the Pacific Northwest as well. All thanks to Dan and his team at Equipment Outreach.

Dan is also a breath of fresh air when it comes to salesmen. We all know the “used-car” mentality that we live in fear of, but Dan is very unique. We went through my equipment list line by line many times with Dan listening to my questions and concerns faithfully. Even if it meant not making a sale he helped me choose equipment he could be proud of selling. He even helped me find used equipment in excellent shape when I didn’t need something brand new, like cages and tables. His theory was that if he was honest and found me equipment that I would be happy with for years I would never stray. He sells not for the moment, but for the future with his main goal of making a lifetime client!!

For a first time practice owner, having Equipment Outreach, particularly Fred Petzold, by my side was invaluable.  Fred made it his mission to understand what I wanted to accomplish in my practice and what my areas of focus were going to be.  He helped direct my limited resources towards the equipment with the quality and capabilities that were appropriate for my particular areas of interest and needs, and that would serve me well as I expanded my skills and offered additional services.  Fred found some awesome deals in both new and used equipment, which allowed me to more fully equip my hospital and stay within my budget.  He made sure I had everything I need, a lot of things I hadn’t thought about, and made sure I had it all on time. Sometimes even a little ahead of time.

I had a horrible time with my digital dental x-ray sensors.  The system took beautiful pictures, as promised, when it worked.  Unfortunately the system was broken more than it was working.  Within 4 months, I had to replace 4 sensors, and due to a backlog in manufacturing, each time I was without a sensor for a couple of weeks.  Since dentistry is an area of interest, and I include full mouth dental rads with every procedure, this was a HUGE problem.  I told Fred about my woes, and he set me up with a brand new system, an upgrade from what I had originally purchased, at no extra cost to me.  He dealt with the original manufacturer returns and the new system is on the way.  I don’t have the new system yet but I am very excited to get it!

Fred is someone I counted on to keep me on track about having everything I needed to open on time.  When I was having a stress-attack, he was there to help me work through it. He never minded my questioning every little item on the suggested list, asking all the details about every piece of equipment. A lot of the equipment I wanted, I had never worked with before- digital dental rads, excellent dental equipment, autoclave, ultrasonic instrument cleaner, etc. and he made sure I got what I needed.  He shared his experiences from working with many veterinarians over the years about which manufacturers have quality products and which not so much.  I am sure my woes with the digital xray sensor were a fluke, as nobody else I have spoken to has had trouble with this manufacturer, but Fred made it right.

I can’t recommend Equipment Outreach highly enough.  And Fred’s a really nice guy.  Next time he’s in the area, I’ll be sure to take HIM out for a couple of beers!
